The cruise should have arranged a bus transfer to Whittier. If not, I would suggest asking them or a travel arrangement. There are other ways to get there like renting a car but it's cheaper on the bus & it really is a nice scenic trip anyways. I live in Anchorage, there are tons of new hotels that are being built, but July is a major peak season so the hotels will be expensive, especially the ones downtown like "The Captain Cook" & "Hilton". BUT The Captain Cook hotel is close to everything & a really nice place to stay too, so you might consider spending the money for it. While you're there, make sure to visit "Orso's" &/or "Glacier Brew House" restaurants (they're right next to each other on 5th street.) They're the BEST places to eat anywhere in Alaska.

There are hotels close to the airport too, but they are farther from down town where you can easily catch the buses too Whittier. DON'T bother spending the night in Whittier either, talk about boring!!!

Have fun! You are going to LOVE it!
