One Response to “can a cruise ship captains wife sail with him?”

  1. Anja H Says:

In general yes, for a certain time, depending on the company.
Normally a person has to be with the cruise line for some time (4 to 6 months) before they can have family onboard for a certain period of time. Captains can have their wives like for a month. Not necessarily for the entire contract onboard with them. It depends on the cruise line and their rules and regulations.
However, before your boyfriend can be a captain on a cruise ships he will be away for a lot of time in other positions.
    1. Nautical school
    2. Sailing as 3rd officer on a Cargo or Tanker ships
    3. Moving up the ranks on that ship
    4. Getting his master license
    5. Finding a job on a cruise line as 3rd officer / or second officer
    6. working on a cruise ship for several contracts before becoming Staff Captain.
7 Working for several contracts on a cruise line as Staff Captain before becoming Captain.

During his "practical" training he will be out sailing and he might can not bring you along or only for a shorter period, like 2 weeks.

    Good luck to you both
