What happens to an outboard when you switch off the battery switch?
I have a 1994 V6 115 Mercury outboard and somebody switched the battery to another battery while the engine was running. The alternator does not charge and the tach does not work anymore. All the fuses are good.Could it be the regulator/rectifier.

You should never switch a battery switch to the OFF position when its running, switching to another battery is OK as long as the battery switch has a 1+2 setting and its a ‘make before break’ type switch (most are) Sounds like the regulator is fried – although I cant say for sure as I don’t know much about Merc outboards.
