1980 hunter 36′ sailboat that has a soft deck around the shrouds. What are some suggestions to repair?

first you will need to check that the shroud attachment point is solid. if not it will also need attention.
you can test for core damage with a hammer, a dull sound indicates rot, a sharp sound will indicate solid deck area.
there are several ways to reconstruct the core material in the deck.
you can drill a series of small holes through the deck only (not through the cabin roof) grind out the rot using an angle bit like an allen wrench inserted in the drill, filling the void with thickened epoxy/ injected with a syringe, and then repairing the holes in the deck.
or you can cut out a section of the deck(but not the inside cabin top). cut a new piece of core material, place the core material in the deck and rebuild the fiberglass deck.
